Popping out of the Cave

Gosh, haven't posted for over a month!! As you may have guessed I've been going through revision hell with my latest WIP (second set already and counting!). Could this be the hardest one to write yet? Quite possibly, and here I was expecting them to get easier and easier. No such sodding luck.

Still I thought I should pop out of the cave to change the blog post as that piece on Julie and Julia is long gone. Also, I've been getting some serious inspiration from the new series of Spooks - complete with Richard Armitage as very tasty bad boy Lucas North - and thought I'd give anyone in the UK a heads up.

Am also due to be doing a post for the Pink Heart Society on Friday 13th November (hoping that's a good omen!) and one for the Writing Playground on the 16th, neither of which have even been thought about yet. So I better shuffle off back to my cave and get this darn book finished...

BTW, I'm currently using the delicious Robert Pattinson as inspiration for a flashback scene where my hero is 21 and my heroine 17... Now with all this help, I really should be able to pull this one out of the fire. Wish me luck!!

Good luck... although I've yet to read one of your books where it looks like you need any such thing!

I'll second Rachael's well wishes . . . and the sentiment about your books, too!

Hi Heidi. I was wondering if you had emigrated lol! Sorry to hear about the latest wip being a pain! But I'm sure they it wil be worth it when it's on the shelves and all us Heidi fans buy it! Take care. Caroline x

Wow Heidi, thanks for the Armitage heads up, I didn't know he was in Spooks (off to Tevo). Just read your post on suite 101 about your success story. It made me feel much better about my 'sorry but' from RNA NWS that I've recently got and inspired to go back to it (after nanowrimo) and work through every one of the pages of comments that I got.

Good luck with your revisions, Heidi. They sound vile! I didn't watch Spooks after Matthew MacFayden left. Maybe I should get back into it. ;-)

Best of luck, Heidi!
It may not be any consolation to you at the moment, but your books are alway fabulous so I'm confident you'll pull through revision hell.

Good luck Heidi! Never thought I'd say this, but I'm looking forward to Friday the 13th ;)

Wow, guys thanks for the encouragement. I tell you I've really been tearing my hair out with this one... And there I was thinking it had all gone so smoothly when I first submitted it.. Denial is a fabulous thing until it comes back and bites you on the butt, right.

Still I was bracing myself for a rejection after sending back the first set of revs so I'm actually feeling quite positive now my ed has asked for more (and no, I'm really not a masochist!!)

And Sally, absolutely go through that report page for page, I got the old 'thanks but' too on my first try but the reader was very encouraging and it spurred me to keep trying.

And after my current nightmare I've come to realise that some stories just don't come out as smoothly as others... If you're lucky enough to be published already your editor will work with you to get it right, if you're not it's much tougher, but at least you'll be learning all about the revision process while you're at it. Nothing's wasted.

And Lacey. I'm planning to do the new Pixar classic Up as my Friday Film, a bit left field but so beautifully told (and with a heart-warming romance at the centre) it seemed like the way to go...

Mmm RPatts, of all people to get me hooked on to the whole Twilight Saga it was my dear hubby. He was overseas for work and ended up watching it, proptly came back and said, 'I think you'll like this, its a bit weird like you.' Bless him.

I'm with Rach - yet to read anything you've done that doesn't seem effortless.

'A bit weird!!' I like it, just finished reading a Vanity Fair article about Pattinson in which he says he's cornered the market in playing weirdos (bless!)

And thanks Janette for the vote of confidence. Good to know all that effort to make my books look effortless works!

Heidi, welcome back to the sunshine! We've worried about you, but thankfully your previous posts had led us to suspect is was revision work keeping you busy.

Good luck!

Oh, I can't wait. I'm a huuuge Heidi Rice fan (except when she's tempting me away from my own WIPs by sending me books and then making me feel like a total hack when I read hers and they're so fab. Sigh. Some people are evil.)

And we're looking forward to seeing you on the Playground!!

Ooh Spooks, I love Spooks and was really pleased to see it back. Would like Rupert Penry Jones to come back from the grave though and rejoin the team.

Nice to see you out of the cave too!
