Cover Joy for The CEO's Impossible Heir...

O.M.G! Just got my NA cover for The CEO's Impossible Heir... This is a sequel to The Billionaire's Proposition in Paris (out in Harlequin's November line-up if anyone's interested!!). It's the second book in my Secrets of Billionaire Siblings duo – and features brooding British billionaire Ross De Courtney, fiery Irish artist Carmel O'Riordan, the discovery of his secret baby (actually now a four-year-old boy) at his sister Katie's wedding to Carmel's brother Conall in Connemara, one steamy week in Ross's penthouse in Tribeca and one agonising week in his luxury Long Island estate as Ross tries to decide if he can ever be a father and Carmel tries to figure out if the lone-wolf billionaire can ever let down his guard long enough to love anyone...

Ross and Carmel's story is out in February 2022, and I think the Harlequin cover fairies have outdone themselves with my hero... I actually had him modelled on Aaron Taylor Johnson but now I'm thinking he looks more like Patrick Dempsey. What do you think? McHottie or McDreamy? I've created a clever little graphic to help you decide...
Then again I'm wondering if it really matters who my guy looks like... Given that come hither smirk is so right, and yet so wrong - for Carmel that is, who has her child and her carefully planned future to consider when Ross crashes back into her life, while crashing his sister's wedding, to cause all sorts of delicious problems!

Introducing Hot Summer Nights with a Billionaire, my duet with Abby Green... With teaser trailers!

Just wanted to introduce you all to my latest addiction... Making Canva Teaser Trailers! LOL..

And more importantly my new duet with the fabulous Abby Green author!

Hot Summer Nights with a Billionaire is about 2 BFFs, 2 Seriously Gorgeous Billionaires and lots of Hot Summer Nights in San Francisco, London, a private island off the coast of Oregon and a lavish country estate in the British Countryside...

It's also my first duet with Mills and Boon Queen Abby Green – but hopefully it won't be our last – because Abby also happens to be my very best writing mate...

Even though Abby is from Dublin and I'm from London we actually met for the first time in San Francisco (glamorous or what?), when I got nominated for a RITA award (aka: a very prestigious romance writing award given by the Romance Writers of America) for my second book The Mile High Club back in 2008 and I decided to head off to the RWA conference alone. I have to admit when I got to SF I was a bit lost, the conference was actually HUGE and as I couldn't afford to stay at the big conference hotel I was in a tiny pod hotel across the street... And I knew NO ONE! Until Abby made it her mission to befriend me and introduce me around to all the other Harlequin/Mills and Boon authors there.  It wasn't long before we were spending far too much time in the bar together, bonding over writing gossip and margaritas (and basically going to virtually no workshops!). I had an absolute ball – even though I didn't win the RITA (did I mentioned I finalled already?!) I won something much better, an amazing friend to help we through the slings and arrows of my writing life. Whenever I have a panic attack about my latest book, Abby's there at the end of the phone to listen to my moaning and brainstorm my plot, characters, etc until I can unstick myself. And I'm happy to do the same for her when she's freaking out about her word count. We've been on writing retreats together in Ireland and Wales and a road trip to Austin Texas (where she somehow managed to direct us into a military airbase! Fabulous friend, great writer, but can’t read a map as it turns out)... Not to mention shared a room together at a host of other RWA conferences. So when our editors suggested us writing a duet together we just had to do it... Abby came up with the initial idea, two best mates from very different backgrounds - one the daughter of an Irish housekeeper and the other the daughter of a callous British aristocrat. Our girls had bonded as teenagers and always had each other's backs, even though they have become very different women. My heroine, the Brit, Cassandra James, is now a focussed career woman with a top-flight job as the assistant to taciturn British billionaire Zachary Temple and, Abby's girl, Ashling Doyle, is a free-spirited Irish yoga teacher. Add in bad boy US tech billionaire Luke Broussard who Cassie is gonna have to spy on at a society wedding in Frisco for her boss Temple, and you've got the basic idea for the duet - with our girls swapping their ideal hero for the guy they SO shouldn't be matched with... We had a lot of fun – and some angst (hey, that’s our process!) – writing these books, and I discovered it really helps to have a friend you can be straight with when it comes to writing a shared prologue! Especially when you decide the shared prologue was a really stupid idea and you scrap it... I love Abby to bits, and I love these two books... And I can't wait to see what readers make of this duet. I’d even love to do another duet with her, but FYI, next time I'm coming up with the far too vague premise we then have to spend hours on the phone during a pandemic trying to turn into something resembling an actual plot. #justsayin'

So here are the two teaser trailers I've done for our books! Hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them...

First up: Cassie and Luke's story One Wild Night with Her Enemy

And second in the series: Ashling and Zachary's story The Flaw in His Red-Hot Revenge

The books are out in July and August, so don't miss them.

Having just sent my latest book to my editor – after a ton of revisions (don't ask!) – I spent yesterday putting together my Christmas newsletter.

Now I know it's probably WAY TOO EARLY to be talking about Christmas already but after the year we've all had – and the distinct possibility that we may be doing lots more reading this year – I'm already looking forward to it. And I hope you are too.

With all that extra reading in mind, this year my annual Christmas Prize Draw is a book-only affair and includes the chance to win two signed Christmas book goodies, plus a signed print copy of my next Presents release - which isn't due out until February 2021.

Innocent's Desert Wedding Contract features a sexy sheikh, an innocent Irish heroine, a fake engagement, a marriage of convenience AND enough drama and passion to justify that super hot cover, honest!!

If you're not signed up for my newsletter already here's the link http://bit.ly/2w9qlFF. If you are signed up already, thank you! But don't forget to click on the link in the newsletter to enter before 30th November and good luck!

So, does anyone have plans for the holidays yet this year? I'm hoping we'll be out of lockdown in the UK and I'll be able to spend some time with my wider family!

How One Glorious Family Summer in Burgundy Inspired A Forbidden Night with the Housekeeper

Two summers ago, I went on a fabulous family holiday to Burgundy in France.

My younger sister – who lives in France – hired a gorgeous chateau from a friend and fourteen of us descended on it for the hottest week of the year. In between sumptuous meals sourced from the local markets, chilled bottles of Crémant de Bourgogne each evening on the terrace, pool parties and tennis battles, we managed to find time to tour a nearby vineyard – which came in handy when the temperature hit 38 degrees.

The tour guide told us all about the vineyard’s 200-year-old history and showed us the ancient vines which were still harvested each year to make their most famous vintage. Immediately an idea formed in my mind of a billionaire vintner – the illegitimate son of a vineyard owner – who had built his own wine empire after being rejected by his father. But when the old man dies, and Maxim Durand is about to acquire the vines he has vowed to own ever since he was that rejected boy, he discovers that his father Pierre had one more cruel trick up his sleeve. Cara Evans was the old man’s housekeeper, young, innocent and rootless she has made Maison de la Lune her home, but at Pierre’s funeral, Maxim makes the devastating discovery she has inherited the vines – his vines – on one proviso, she can’t sell them to him. He is of course furious, and sets about getting hold of those vines by whatever means necessary. But after one night of passion – that gets way out of hand – Maxim discovers wine isn’t the only thing he’s good at making (hint: accidental pregnancy, anyone?)!

I loved writing A Forbidden Night with the Housekeeper because it brought back so many incredible memories of that week in Burgundy. Long lazy days competing in tennis tournaments (I lost every one), or lounging by the pool watching the kids and young adults trying to ride a blow-up unicorn (much harder than you think, actually). And fun fabulous nights taking turns to concoct delicious meals from the local produce, quaffing the Burgundy wine (of course), and playing cut-throat parlour games (my family is disturbingly competitive!). It's memories such as these that are having to sustain a lot of us at the moment, so knowing the book will be in stores this summer is a great additional excuse to remember all that quality time spent with people I haven’t been able to see in person for weeks now… I miss my extended family so much, as I’m sure everyone does, but thank goodness we’ve discovered Zoom, which has allowed us to link up every Sunday – between France, London, Wiltshire, Cambridge, New York and Melbourne. As soon as we can, we plan to descend on Burgundy again – and in anticipation of that occasion I’m already working on ideas for a sequel to Maxim and Cara’s story. Wouldn’t it be cool if Maxim has a ruthless super-hot rival who falls in lust with Cara’s bubbly maid Antoinette?

Stay safe everyone and happy reading.

A Sneak Peek of My Latest Release!

Claimed for the Desert Prince's Heir is out now!

Raif and Kasia's story is a sequel to Carry the Sheikh's Baby

Here's the blurb:
From desert seduction…
…to carrying the sheikh’s baby!
Kasia’s thrilling encounter with Prince Raif rocked her to her core. As did his marriage proposal! Yes, she’d given him her innocence after his daring desert rescue. Yes, their chemistry had been intensely strong. But independent Kasia didn’t need or want a husband. She reluctantly fled, thinking she’d never see him again…
Until weeks later at a lavish party he’s right there, looking furious—and dangerously sexy! Kasia can’t hide the truth—she’s pregnant with his royal heir. And this time it’s clear Raif won’t let her go!

I made a little book trailer, as you do. Enjoy!

Book Release News and Writing Plans for 2019!

Happy New Year everyone, hope you all had a fab Christmas. I spent the week in gorgeous Northumberland, drinking prosecco, celebrating an 80s Wham Christmas (as well as the real thing), watching The Greatest Showman with my mum, doing a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle, eating too much and visiting the best bookshop in the world (Barter Books in Alnwick, in case you need to know) - so doing all the important stuff, basically.

2018 was a good writing year for me and as a result I've already got 3 new Harlequin Presents/Mills and Boon Modern books written and scheduled for release in 2019... Yay! (Sometimes I even amaze myself?!)

Book Releases for 2019 (so far):

Carrying the Sheikh's Baby - January 2019 (that's like, now, folks!)

Hired by the sheikh… And expecting the royal heir!

When shy, academic Cat Smith is hired as a researcher by Sheikh Zane Ali Nawari Khan, she’s thrilled—and completely dazzled by their overwhelming chemistry! Cat knows a fling could compromise her professional credibility, but resisting Zane’s sensual caress feels utterly impossible. Until their passionate encounter has lasting consequences… Now carrying the heir to the kingdom means one thing—Cat must become Zane’s queen!

Claiming My Untouched Mistress - April 2019

I’ve drawn her into my world… And she’s mine to awaken!

Walking into my casino, Edie Spencer seemed like a spoilt heiress—until she agreed to clear her family’s debts by posing as my temporary mistress. My plan? To use her to expose my business rivals. Yet discovering Edie’s innocence has led to greater temptation than I could have imagined. Our chemistry is spectacular—now I’ll claim Edie for so much more than pleasure!

Contracted As His Cinderella Bride - August 2019
No blurb/cover yet... But here's my teaser trailer:
When London cycle courier Alison Jones delivers a wedding ring to French property billionaire Dominic LeGrand one rain-soaked night in Bloomsbury, they can't keep their hands off each other. It is the beginning of a tumultuous ride that will include the chance to realise her dream of becoming a fashion designer ... If only she can stop herself from falling head over heels in love with her new husband of convenience!!

Writing and Other Plans for 2019!

January 14th: I'll be doing a Take Over Day at The Pink Heart Society's Aspiring Authors Group on Facebook, so if you have questions about writing you want to put to me go join the group!

February 25th: I'll be starting a new run of my 7-week online Writing Romance Course at the Professional Writing Academy... If you want a taster session for the course, check out the week-long free workshop I'm running on the PHS AA group in February on Creating Compelling Characters... Another great reason to join this wonderful FB group for aspiring romance writers... I'll have more details of that on Twitter and FB when I know the dates.

Kasim and Kasia's Pinterest Board!
I'm already back at the coal face writing my next Presents, which is going to be a sequel of sorts to my January book - Carrying the Sheikh's Baby. So if you enjoyed Kasia and Kasim from that book, you may enjoy this one, suffice it to say there's going to lots of hot desert sex, some jet-setting in London and the Med, an accidental pregnancy and much more in store for these two! Oh my.

My other writing plans for this year include writing more Presents, hopefully another Rodeo book for Tule - featuring the oldest O'Connell brother, Gabe, who appears in The Rodeo Cowboy's Baby. I'm also working on a new women's fiction novel, whenever I can find the time, about a run-down arthouse cinema in Notting Hill, the plucky young manager who has just inherited half of it after the death of her best friend and mentor...  and the movie-hating Manhattan property developer who has inherited the other half... Wish me luck on that!

I love making plans for the new year, how about you? The only think I have to do now is start making them happen!!

My Amazing Summer, With Book Release News and more...

Ready to party at Bestival...
Moi en famille avec chien! At the amazing Chateau Les Arcis
So it's been a long hot summer here in the UK which is finally drawing to a close, and I've had one heck of a fabulous summer - going on a spectacular family holiday to an amazing chateau in Burgundy France (which is definitely appearing in a book one day!) and doing my annual jaunt to Bestival (a music festival in the South West of England) with my sister, our twenty-something kids and my mum's campervan. Somehow or other, in between the eating and drinking and sun-bathing and swimming and bopping to the likes of Rudimental and Chaka Khan and covering myself in glitter, I also managed to find some time to write!

Writing News

Hot, Hot, Hot! My Pinterest page for Claiming My Untouched Mistress...
So I'm over-joyed to announce that my 26th Harlequin book was accepted a few days ago! It's my first 1st person book - written in the first person of both the hero and the heroine – and was inspired by the film Molly's Game (ie: it opens with a very sexy poker game in the hero's Monaco casino) and my trip to the Cote D'Azur last year. Claiming My Untouched Mistress is scheduled for release next March, but before that I have TWO new releases coming out this month and next month - told you I'd been busy!

My Latest Releases

Bound By Their Scandalous Baby is my next Harlequin Presents/Mills and Boon Modern book and is on bookshelves RIGHT NOW! It features hot-as-hell hotel tycoon Lukas Blackstone, desperate virgin Bronte O'Hara, a secret baby (or rather toddler), a marriage of convenience AND an accidental pregnancy (as you can probably tell, Lukas and Bronte are over-achievers!).

The Rodeo Cowboy's Baby is the last book in Tule Publishing's 79th Copper Mountain Rodeo series and hits digital bookshelves on 18th September. It features lovelorn Irish journalist Evie Donelly, and gorgeous calf-roper Flynn O'Connell who have three hot nights at the rodeo that they are never going to be able to forget because... Well, the clue's in the title. BTW if you're a member of the fabulous Tule Book Club on Facebook I'll be taking part in a launch party for the series tomorrow at 3pm PST (which is 11pm in the UK!).

I cover everything from writing compelling sex scenes to how to develop unique, multi-layered characters and plotting a romance, we use extracts from some of my favourite books. You'll gets lots of feedback on your writing exercises from me and from the other writers on the course. And you can access the online classroom from anywhere on the globe so it's open to you wherever you happen to be. So if you've ever wanted to write a romance novel, check it out!

Newsletter, Schmoozeletter

As you have probably noticed I don't do a lot of blogging anymore - because I'm way too busy writing and bopping and generally being a bit useless about updating this blog. I'll still be popping in here from time to time, but if you want to keep more up to date with my current releases and competitions, etc you can always sign up for my newsletter here or by using the handy little form on the right.

So that's all from me folks, have a fabulous Fall and happy reading.

The Virgin's Shock Baby is Out NOW!!

My new Harlequin Presents/Mills & Boon Modern, The Virgin's Shock Baby, is out now!! I'm super proud of this story, it has (I hope) all the passionate intensity Presents demands and an alpha hero to die for in billionaire Italian corporate raider Dario De Rossi while Megan Whittaker is a sweet, vulnerable heroine who discovers a strength she never knew she had in Dario's arms. I also had a lot of sexy fun with the Pregnesia trope, something I have never done before but ALWAYS wanted to do...

Here are some of the things readers have been saying about it:

"Overall, a fantastic read. Not to be missed." 5 stars, Brenda, Goodreads

"This was my first book to read by Heidi Rice and I LOVED IT!!!! " 5 stars, Dawn Nicholson, Goodreads

"At times an intense, passionate romantic story with strong characters in both the hero and heroine and both characters deserved the HEA. Loved it." 5 stars, Geraldine, Goodreads

I hope you'll give it a go and let me know what you think...

A Writers Retreat to Die For...

Saving Private Rice!
I'm not gonna lie, I've been on writing retreats before that I've enjoyed... But I've never been on a writing retreat before which I really enjoyed where I actually got LOADS of writing done, too.

Sundown in Wexford
There's always something hugely inspiring to me about being with other writers - chatting late into the night about process, the industry, brainstorming plots and sharing writing woes and insecurities (while occasionally having the odd tipple of wine and prosecco!). But last week in the glorious Wexford countryside brought a whole new meaning to the term Writers Retreat for me.

Firstly the company was fabulous, there's nothing better than being with a great bunch of fellow writers and this lot were awesome - focused, smart, articulate women who were, most importantly of all, a lot of fun to be with. Or as the Irish would say 'great craic'.

Oscar Wilde woz here!
Carol Marinelli, Jane Porter, Kelly Hunter, Abby Green and me met up at Dublin airport on the Saturday, piled into two cars and headed down to a glorious cottage near Carne Beach in Wexford with a stop en route for a delicious lunch at the Avoca Cafe in Mount Usher Wicklow (if you're ever there check out the feta fritters!).

Calm, serene and beautifully furnished, the traditional thatched cottage we stayed in is rumoured to be the place where Oscar Wilde spent his childhood summers. Well, one thing I will say, there was a definite writing vibe as soon as we got there - whether that was Oscar's ghost or the lack of wifi who knows. But either way, after a day of settling in and raiding the local SuperValu, we were all getting down to work.

Soaking up the Smithwicks
A couple of us had screaming deadlines, a couple of others were putting some words down and getting their plots sorted, and I was doing revisions on my third Presents/Modern book... And much to my surprise, the words flowed easily (not a usual occurrence for me - see 'writing woes' above). By the end of the week I had figured out the problems with the ending and fixed them and my editor had sent word the book had been accepted... (FYI Captive at Her Enemy's Command will be out in April 2018! Yay me). But not only that, I'd also managed to submit three chapters and a synopsis for my next Presents and laid down plans for two new longer book proposals and had a think about my next cowboy book for Tule!

Our Lady's Island
I don't think I've ever been so focused and had so much fun while doing it, because in between the writing we found time for trips to:

Rosslare Harbour – to feed our internet and Clonakilty sausage addictions.

The Lobster Pot - a local pub to eat crab claws soaked in garlic butter.

Our Lady's Island - to light a candle at the outdoor shrine and have a glass of Smithwicks at the Island Bar (both holy experiences IMHO).

Curracloe Beach - to get windswept while learning all about the filming of Saving Private Ryan from our own Abby Green.

Another picture in the Pub! Wot?
And have a date with bestselling author Carmel Harrington and some delicious posh nosh at Kelly's Resort.

I even found time to start running every morning, something I'm going to keep up now I'm home... Although jogging around Clissold Park in Hackney doesn't have quite the same inspirational vibe as jogging down the quiet country lanes to Carne Beach.

When we headed back to Dublin a week later I was really sad to say goodbye to everyone.

But there's only one cure for my melancholia... We MUST do it again, ladies...

Leaving my heart in Wexford

NaNo-What Now?? And Book Giveaway News

Box o' Presents!
Writing is always super hard for me... That was until this month. After finishing my second longer book and sending it off to my editor I had only a month to write my next Presents. I had already done six chapters of this book... So I wasn't too panicky.. Yet.  I signed up for NaNoWriMo to help get me motivated. Only thing was, the day before it was due to start I read those first six chapters... And realised I had a problem, the external plot was way too complicated, my hero was a jerk and my heroine was a psychopath!!

I had two choices:

1) Try moulding that lump of crap into something more appealing.

2) Start from scratch.

But I only had a month. And it usually takes me three months to write a book anyway. But then a strange and wonderful thing happened. On the first of November, I just opened a new document and started again. Because I suddenly had a whole new vision for this book. The basics of the external plot were similar, but my heroine was a totally different person. And I soon realised so was my hero, not as ruthless, but just as alpha. And suddenly the words started to flow... And flow... And flow.

And now it's Day 13 of NaNoWriMo and I've written 36k words... And I'm still going folks. And I am LOVING this book. Which means either I'm completely delusional. Or it's actually as good as I think it is.

Here's a sneak peek of my Pinterest board to give you an idea of what it's about.

So now I know. Writing is always hard for me, except on the very rare occasions when it's not – and I turn into Joan Wilder at the beginning of Romancing the Stone. And seriously there is nothing more uplifting. This is good news for me, because I needed something to lift me up right now. And locking myself in my study and ignoring the news and just writing about love and romance and two people who desperately need each other but haven't figured it out yet – and then throwing in a marriage of convenience and a touch of pregnesia to spice things up a bit – is TOTALLY the answer.

In other news, my box of books arrived from Harlequin for my first Classic Presents: Vows They Can't Escape which is out in Jan 2017 in the US and Feb 2017 in the UK... I'm doing a Goodreads giveaway, but will also be doing a couple of giveaways to people signed up to my newsletter list. I'll be arranging that as soon as I finish this book... So if you're not signed up already and you want a chance to win, you can find the sign up form on my Facebook Author Page or my website or from the form on the sidebar.

Here's the giveaway which should be live soon... ish!

How a romantic trip to Sorrento... Can become important research!

Breakfast on the Terrazzo
It's no secret that I love to travel, but when you're an author, any trip can become a great way to research your next book... Or so I discovered on a romantic getaway this weekend to Sorrento with my DH! I love Italy, it's a place I've visited often (especially since meeting my DH who is of Italian descent), but I've never been to the Amalfi coast. What had I been thinking???

Turns out in March, with the sun not as scorching as the summer months, the air crisp and clear and the tourist traffic at a minimum, Sorrento is an absolute joy. The ornate palladian palaces clinging to the cliffs contrasting with the rabbit warren of cobblestoned streets in the town's historic quarter and the intimate little family run trattorias and pizzerias frequented by locals when you get away from the Piazza Tasso. We stayed in a little but luxurious BnB on the main drag with views of orange orchards and the scooters weaving out of traffic.

Pompeii selfie.. with my hero!
A trip to Capri on the hydro foil introduced us to hilltop villas where a hero could definitely have an amazing pad... I could see him there, his estate opening out from the narrow alley way that winds through the houses and terraces carved into the mountain side. Italian American maybe? Trying to get back to his roots after a rootless childhood? And could my heroine be a tourist? Or a classics graduate doing guided walking tours of Pompeii, the ancient city's mysteries fascinating her...? Until she meets a man who fascinates her even more?? Have no idea for a story yet, or even an opening hook, but Spring on the Amalfi Coast is looking like a very promising location already!! Maybe I could even make this trip tax deductible.
